Important Updates for Teachers

Typing.com has made some major updates to your Teacher Portal that will improve classroom management, enhance curriculum implementation, and make it easier for you to track student progress.

This brief video shares details on how we’re working to make your job easier.

As you’ve seen in the video, some great new tools have been added!

Already a teacher? Log in to your account and see how you can:

  • View your students’ progress more clearly with the Lessons and Practice screens. Look at overall progress over time, as well as progress made during a selected date range.
  • Check out the Typing Tests screen where you can find out quickly and easily if your students are struggling with a specific skill.
  • Keep informed of the time students have spent on the Typing.com games with the new Games tab.
  • Save time in managing your class with the simplified navigation.

If you don’t already have an account with Typing.com, sign up here.

Stay tuned ―District Support Tools are coming soon!

Schools and districts using Typing.com in multiple locations will now have the opportunity to set up a district-wide account, connecting all schools and classrooms and giving administrators access to progress reporting across all schools in a district.

Perhaps best of all, all features of Typing.com will continue to be free, including all district and educator support! Here are some details on the new district support tools.

New Administrator Role

In addition to the teacher roles, a new administrator role will be available. Administrators can send instant invites to add new educators to the school account, assign roles, and manage the other educators in the school or district.

Add Multiple Teachers to a Class

You asked and we listened! Due to popular demand, you are now able to add multiple teachers to your classes – enabling co-teachers, specialists and other educators to support the same group of students and track and assess student progress.

Custom Lesson Creation for Administrators

You may already be using the custom lesson creation tool, providing cross-curricular learning by enabling teachers to generate original content for students to type, integrating keyboarding lessons with any relevant content for your students. This feature is now available to administrators, who can create custom lessons and distribute to all teachers in the school.

Stay tuned for more new features to come! If you’re having trouble accessing any features or want insights on how to make the most of Typing.com, we want to hear from you. Please contact our support team and we’ll help you get up to speed.

  1. Hello!
I just finished using typing.com to start my second graders and review with my 3rd – 5th graders, changing my “rules” for them this fourth quarter. I had not seen your update to the teacher portal yet, so I instructed my student to keep a typing log of their time since I was allowing them to use games as typing practice time this fourth quarter. I love the game tab – it may help me greatly! One question: Does NitroType count in the gaming time your site logs? I assume it does not, but would love to know for sure. One comment: I LOVE that you added the space bar in the lesson right after f and j!!! I wold request that you add [enter] at the beginning also since the students have to reach for [enter] with their pinky finger immediately when they start the lessons.
I LOVE your website! Thank you so much!

  2. It appears that the levels are broken down into smaller sections as well – this has effected the structure of my grading system as they are not the same ‘chunks’ as they were previously – I like how they are now, I just need to adjust my gradebook

  3. All the new updates are awesome. Filtering and being able to assign just a certain section is a plus. The only feature I wish you all can add is where we can put a WPM goal for every student to achieve. However a WPM goal that can be set for the average of each lesson but not for each typing exercise with in the lesson. That would make it easier for me to grade the student since in my class I give each student a lesson wpm goal to achieve.

  4. Love that we can see an overview of all their completed lessons instead of having to scroll down to see their progress!!!

    1. I am so excited about this feature also. I now won’t have to keep track on a class roster. I also love the filter option for the 3 levels. I do agree with others though it would be nice to see a report that shows progress for WPM so we can track growth.

  5. I have been using this since September with grades 2-6. My 3rd grade classes progress has been wiped out. We logged in today and it started them back at square one. They are the only classes that it has happened to.

  6. AWESOME !
I already loved your website, but NOW…
    Oh Yeah !!!
I love the more convenient access to a “birds-eye-view” of their progress & the selected parameters !
THANK YOU for caring about advancements in keyboarding !!!
    🙂

  7. Why are we no longer able to run reports to see starting typing WPM in September.? I like to use that information to record growth. Everything else is awesome!

  8. This seems like a great addition! I would LOVE to see a report that we can pull that immediately gives a beginning typing score (by set date perhaps) and the growth to a certain date. I currently make certificates for this data because we emphasize growth.

  9. These changes may just change my 5th – 8th graders keyboarding curriculum to this site exclusively!! I already loved how it shows kids constantly the correct keys to use AND has the constant reinforcement of accuracy and looking UP from their keyboard.

  10. I would love to see the update as well as my students progress, but I can’t log in now! I have been using this program for 4 years now and love it! I just need to be able to log in.

  11. This is my first year to use Typing.com with regularity. I like the ease of use with the new updates. I just have one request. I give timed tests at the beginning and ending of school to gauge how far they’ve come in the school year, but it’s longer than 180 days so now I’m finding I can’t access the beginning of the year tests. Is there any way to save that data in the future so we can access the entire school year? Thanks!

  12. How can we add additional teachers? I’m working with Special Education kiddos and their Computers teacher would love to be able to give them grades for their progress.

  13. Hi,
I am looking for a typing program to use for the 2019-2020 school year. I was reading some of the comments and noticed several on wpm. I wold really need to know what their wpm is, and I would also like to know how many lessons are on your site? Also since I am preparing students to type essays, I was wondering if at some point in the lessons are the students typing essays or stories? I know that is a lot of questions, but they are something I really need answers to. My name is Cindy Mead, [email protected] Thank you for your time.

    1. Hi Cindy,
I will send this via email as well, but wanted to respond here in case someone else had the same questions.
Yes, Typing.com will show you your students’ wpm. You can set up a free account and view all the available lessons including the essays. In addition, you can create your own lessons based on content they are currently learning in the classroom.
      I hope this helps!
